For this assignment, we were told to make a client with some for a challenge.

My client Adrian,  has PTSD from the traumatic situation he was in. He was in Japan when the Tsunami hit and lost his wife there.

The house was considered historic to its site, therefore we were not allowed to touch some of the exterior walls.

I decided to clean up and polish the bricks without changing much of how it looked.

For the interior, I did some research onto how to design an interior to help Adrian cope with his Panic attacks.

I found that having handrails around the house was very important to help him hold himself up when he does have a phase. I also limited the windows in the house to cancel out the sound of rain when it is raining outside, because that would have caused an episode.

Having less windows caused an issue of lack of Natural sunlight in the house, therefore I decided to open a skylight over the main stairwell, make it double glazed to keep out the sound of rushing water, but also let in sunlight when there is sun outside.

The roof is also tilted in a way that pours the rain water and ice onto his little patio on the side of the house. It also has a smart draining system that collects the rain water in a container in his basement that he uses for his plants.

Another way I designed to help him with his attacks, was making the house as open as possible. Him being able to see what is happening in the house helps ease his mind. Having the skylight over the stairwell caused a beautiful opening through the whole house, letting natural light in and also keeping it in his range of sight.
